PATRICK J. DENARD, M.D.
A native Oregonian, Dr. Denard has been voted one of the top 20 shoulder surgeons in North America and is the most widely published shoulder specialist in Oregon. In 2021, The National Library of Medicine’s Expertscape ranked Patrick Denard, MD, #2 for rotator cuff repair and #17 in shoulder replacements worldwide. Dr. Denard has advanced arthroscopy training and performs the vast majority of shoulder procedures in a minimally invasive fashion, including all types of rotator cuff repairs and instability repairs. These techniques allow him to repair tears that some consider “irreparable.” In addition, he performs anatomic and reverse shoulder replacements for shoulder arthritis..
“I am inspired by helping people get back to doing the things they enjoy.”
In addition to his position at Oregon Shoulder Institute, Dr. Denard has been appointed a Clinical Associate Professor with the Washington State University Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences. He is also an instructor at Oregon Health & Science University and is an Active Member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He continues to participate in research, presenting this nationally and internationally and regularly instructs other orthopedists at courses on the shoulder. He is the co-author of two textbooks on shoulder surgery: “The Cowboy’’s Companion: A Trail Guide for the Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgeon” and “The Cowboy’s Conundrum: Complex and Advanced Cases in Shoulder Arthroscopy”. These books provide step-by-step instructions and tips and tricks for successful outcomes for orthopedic surgeons performing shoulder surgery.
“I love being a shoulder specialist and have had the pleasure of taking care of people with a variety of shoulder problems from all over Southern Oregon and Northern California. I want to provide the highest level of shoulder care possible for my patients. I stay up-to-date on the latest research so that my patients get the best that is currently available in shoulder care. Whether through nonoperative means or surgery, my goal is to help my patients understand their condition and get them using their shoulder again. If you have shoulder pain, we will work together to the best of our ability to make you better.”
Outside of work Dr. Denard enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, playing golf, and being a part of the local community.

CAMERON PHILLIPS, M.D.
Originally from Western Montana, Dr. Phillips earned his medical degree from the University of Washington and went on to New York City to complete his Orthopedic Residency training. He then received advanced and highly specialized fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery under Dr. Larry Field and Dr. Felix Savoie, III, two prestigious pioneers of the shoulder world. During his fellowship, Dr. Phillips excelled in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques for such conditions as rotator cuff tears and shoulder instability. His emphasis on data-driven advanced techniques for shoulder replacement have continued to yield exemplary results for countless satisfied patients.
Dr. Phillips prides himself in a measured, multi-disciplinary approach to shoulder treatment. His treatment plans will often incorporate both non-surgical and surgical plans to optimize one’s shoulder function and full potential. Specialized regenerative medicine injections and highly tailored treatment protocols in physical therapy are often used to optimize his patients’ performance.
My approach to shoulder and elbow conditions is comprehensive—listening carefully to my patients’ concerns and then using the latest surgical and non-surgical techniques to provide the best care Sports Medicine has to offer. Whether I am treating an elite professional athlete working to get back out on the field, or a retiree simply seeking to enjoy their daily routine without pain, I am dedicated to working closely with every patient through each step of improvement. It is a true privilege to care for the people of Southern Oregon and beyond, and I am extremely honored by the trust my patients put in me to help guide them on the path to feeling their best.
